1. Introduction
The SayProCKG Recycling Project is a national community-driven initiative aimed at transforming schools, youth centres, churches, women’s groups, and local organizations into green spaces of change. The project educates participants on sustainable waste management, supports the setup of community and school recycling stations, and promotes green entrepreneurship through waste-to-wealth activities.
This proposal invites schools and community organizations to partner with SayPro in implementing impactful, learner- and youth-centered recycling programmes that improve the environment, reduce landfill pressure, and create income opportunities.
2. Why Recycling Matters
South Africa faces an increasing waste crisis. Schools, households, and informal settlements are major contributors to unmanaged waste, leading to:
- Environmental pollution
- Water contamination
- Increased disease risks
- Lost economic opportunities
Yet, over 80% of our waste can be reused or recycled. With the right training, systems, and motivation, we can turn waste into opportunity—creating jobs, cleaner environments, and informed, empowered communities.
3. SayProCKG Recycling Project Goals
- Establish sustainable recycling infrastructure and education in schools and communities.
- Promote environmental awareness through training, events, and campaigns.
- Encourage youth-led recycling clubs or green brigades.
- Support recycling as an income-generating activity.
- Reduce waste sent to landfills and open spaces by at least 50% per site.
- Encourage a long-term culture of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (3Rs).
4. Who Can Participate?
This programme is open to:
- Public and private schools (primary & secondary)
- Community centres and NGOs
- Youth clubs and faith-based organizations
- Street committees, resident associations, and traditional councils
- Women and youth cooperatives
- Early Childhood Development Centres
- Local municipalities interested in community pilot sites
