By the SayPro Royal Committee Secretary: Mary Mapula Malebe 17 May 2025
Good day to everyone across the SayPro community, our partners, and citizens around the world,
I am honoured to address you today as the Secretary of the SayPro Royal Committee on this important occasion—World Hypertension Day, 17 May 2025.
Each year, this day reminds us of the critical importance of awareness, early detection, and prevention of a health condition that touches millions of lives globally—hypertension, or high blood pressure.
This year’s theme, “Know Your Numbers, Know Your Risk,” is simple, but powerful. It speaks to the heart of what we must all do: take charge of our health by first understanding it.
As Secretary, my role is often behind the scenes—documenting actions, ensuring follow-through, and keeping our mission on track. But today, I speak to you not only as an official but as a fellow citizen—because hypertension is not someone else’s problem. It affects all of us: our families, our friends, and our communities.
Hypertension does not discriminate. It affects young and old, rich and poor, urban and rural. And the most dangerous part? Many people don’t even know they have it.
That is why we must all take the message seriously: Get your blood pressure checked. Encourage others to do the same. It’s quick, it’s simple, and it could save your life.
At SayPro, we are working hard to ensure this message reaches schools, clinics, villages, and cities. Through collaboration with healthcare workers, youth groups, and local leaders, we are spreading knowledge, creating access, and encouraging healthier habits.
But we cannot do this alone.
We need each of you to be ambassadors of health. Talk about hypertension. Share information. Help your loved ones check their numbers. Let’s make it normal—and necessary—to care about our blood pressure.
To everyone working on the front lines—healthcare providers, volunteers, educators—we thank you. Your dedication is saving lives.
Let today not just be a reminder—but a movement. A movement toward healthier communities, informed decisions, and a future where hypertension is no longer a silent threat.
Thank you, and Happy World Hypertension Day 2025.
Together, let’s keep the heartbeat of our communities strong.
