By Chairperson, SayPro Royal Committee
Esteemed colleagues, honored guests, distinguished partners, and valued members of the SayPro communityâ
It is with great humility and immense pride that I address you today on Global Accessibility Awareness Day 2025.
This day is not simply about awarenessâit is about awakening. An awakening to the truth that accessibility is not a privilege bestowed upon a fewâit is a right that belongs to all. And it is our collective duty, as leaders, as institutions, and as a global society, to ensure that this right is fully realized.
As Chairperson of the SayPro Royal Committee, I carry the deep responsibility of safeguarding not only the legacy of SayPro, but also its moral compassâits values, its vision, and its role in building a more inclusive world.
At SayPro, we believe that dignity is non-negotiable, and inclusion is not optional.
Throughout history, people with disabilities have often been overlookedânot because they lacked capability, but because systems, structures, and mindsets failed to see their value. That time must come to an end. And that change begins with us.
Over the past year, the Royal Committee has worked hand-in-hand with SayPro leadership to:
- Promote accessibility as a governing principleâensuring that every strategic decision is reviewed with inclusion at its core.
- Encourage the celebration of diverse abilities, cultures, and identities, reminding us that accessibility is not just technicalâit is deeply human.
- And guide the development of policies that honor heritage, equity, and justice, aligning our commitments with global human rights standards and community-led wisdom.
Today, I am honored to announce that the Royal Committee will advance three critical initiatives for 2025 and beyond:
- The SayPro Charter on Accessibility and Dignity
This foundational document, endorsed by the Royal Committee, will formalize SayProâs ongoing commitment to universal access across education, technology, governance, and societyâanchored in cultural respect and global principles of inclusion. - Intercultural Accessibility Forums
We will convene a series of dialogues across regions and cultures to ensure that our understanding of accessibility reflects the rich diversity of our communities. Because true inclusion must honor the local while embracing the global. - A Royal Fellowship for Inclusive Leadership
We are launching a new fellowship to empower emerging leadersâespecially those with lived experience of disabilityâto become advocates, innovators, and visionaries in the fields of accessibility, policy, and public service.
Let me be clear: this is not charity. This is not special treatment. This is justice. And justice, when practiced with compassion and clarity, becomes the foundation of transformation.
Let us not view accessibility as an end goal, but as a continual expression of our shared humanity. A responsibility not for some, but for all. And a legacy we must be proud to leave behind.
On this GAAD 2025, I call upon governments, civil society, businesses, educators, and every individual of conscience: Let us lead with empathy. Let us act with courage. Let us build a world where everyone belongs.
At SayPro, guided by our values, our communities, and our Royal Committeeâs solemn duty, we will continue to walk this pathânot out of obligation, but out of conviction.
Thank you. Let us rise togetherâfor accessibility, for equity, and for all.
