By the Chief Finance Officer (CFO)– Keamogetswe Toka
Good morning colleagues, SayPro partners, and fellow South Africans,
Today, we pause to honour one of the most powerful moments in our nation’s history — Freedom Day. On April 27th, 1994, South Africans claimed their democratic right to vote, setting in motion a journey of hope, justice, and transformation.
But as we mark Freedom Day 2025, we must remember that political freedom must be matched with economic freedom — or else the promise of 1994 remains incomplete.
As the Chief Finance Officer of SayPro, I carry the responsibility of ensuring that our resources are used wisely, accountably, and most importantly — with purpose. Because how we allocate, invest, and account for funds reflects what we truly value.
At SayPro, we believe in a South Africa where every rand spent is a statement of intent. And our intent is clear:
To unlock the potential of our youth. To empower communities. And to build a future that is equitable and sustainable.
This Freedom Day, I want to speak to three key ways in which financial leadership supports real, lasting freedom:
1. Freedom means access to economic opportunity.
We must finance programmes that open doors — to jobs, to skills, to entrepreneurship. Every investment we make must help dismantle barriers that keep young people stuck on the margins of our economy.
2. Freedom means financial accountability.
There is no justice in wasted resources. At SayPro, we ensure that every cent is accounted for, every decision is transparent, and every outcome is measurable. In this way, we protect the integrity of our mission — and honour the trust placed in us.
3. Freedom means sustainability.
Our youth deserve long-term change, not short-term fixes. That’s why we plan, budget, and build for impact that lasts — because economic freedom should not be a privilege, but a birthright.
Colleagues and friends, the financial decisions we make today determine the opportunities available tomorrow. We cannot speak of freedom if our young people are still bound by poverty, exclusion, and a lack of access to capital and support.
So let us fund wisely. Let us invest boldly. Let us drive transformation not just through words, but through numbers, strategy, and impact.
To the youth of South Africa:
You are not a cost — you are the greatest asset this country has. Our role is to ensure that the resources follow your vision, your energy, and your dreams.
As we commemorate Freedom Day 2025, let’s commit to a South Africa where freedom is funded — where economic justice walks hand in hand with democracy.
Happy Freedom Day. Let us continue to build a nation where financial strategy serves human dignity.
Thank you.
